A primally urgent and wildly intelligent play for our moment. Troy Deutsch's "Orangutan" could have easily found itself trapped in the echo chamber of a one-joke premise. I think those who are not artists forget the things that this story remind us are important- which is why I am so glad that this production is being done during Fringe. There is something very special about a show when you know and can tell that someone has poured their heart and soul into it. This show was one of those experiences. Ms. Downing has a genuine talent for bringing characters to life in this solo show. Her energy, physicality and center shifts to embody a variety of characters, from the slightly [maybe completely] mysoginistic doctors her character Jenny and husband Matt encounter on their quest to get pregnant to the delightful older woman next door to the new age acupuncturist who promises to access angel babies - the show seems to cover it all.... full review
