In olden days, raves often used the phrase “the bright new musical comedy” and having just seen the bright new musical comedy called The Bully Problem, I find myself thinking about how it exemplifies many meanings of the word, “bright.” We say intelligent people are bright, and Michael Gordon Shapiro’s book, music and lyrics are, first and foremost, smart. The plot is on the silly side, but there’s a level of thoughtfulness in the plentiful jokes, and cogent construction in all the songs. There’s...

ExtraOrdinary brings an unusual but remarkable charm that illustrates the quirkiness and chaos of growing up as the "theatre kid". What I loved most about this show is the writing by Chambers Stevens. You NEVER KNOW where he is going, but you suspect everything, try to solve the case, and you're still wrong!!! And that's what makes it fun. ...

Even standing in line, listening to someone play guitar and sing 'Big Rock Candy Mountain' while waiting to enter, I knew I was in for a treat! Then I entered the theater and the energy was palpable. These delightful discoveries continued throughout the production. And it all ended in a beautiful chaotic mess. The night felt like a pure celebration of theater, creation, collaboration, and fun. ...

I can't wait to see where this production goes. It's originality, creativity, intimacy, and brilliant ensemble are just the kinds of things that should be getting this play produced to an even wider audience. It's a really important message delivered in the best possible way....

Wow... I haven’t laughed like that in a long time. And I haven’t laughed and then cried (and then laughed again 90 seconds later) like that... ever. I walked away with that feeling that I’d just experienced something more powerful than I could put into words. Such a great performance by a talented artist. ...

Real. So real. Most if not all of the scenes spoke to me in regards to my own life. The indecision of moving from a small town to a big city for school. Being happy where you end up, but still missing the family and friends left behind. It was an inventive way to tell a old leaving home story....

This was by far the most entertaining and charming sheer knowledge flex on an audience I've ever seen. Brett skillfully takes you through his love of baseball while not hitting you over the head with terminology and facts that the average (or below average) lover of baseball may find overwhelming while not making you feel out-of-the-loop for not knowing what you don't know. Please please go see this show. It's some of my favorite 45 minutes I've spent at Fringe ever. ...
