The Ruffian on the Stair

Great ensemble acting. Interesting off-beat story. Really well written. The script doesn't seem dated at all. The theatre space itself is very nice. Just a really enjoyable night of going to the theatre. ... full review

Silent Joy, a New Play

drew petriello · June 14, 2019 certified reviewer
A beautiful play that manages to pull off a tricky narrative structure, say something meaningful about depression and abuse, while being truly theatrical. I know it is adapted from an upcoming graphic novel and I'm sure there are several adaptational differences, but the way this story was told could only have worked in the theatre. Which is exciting to me, given how sick I am of naturalism on the stage.... full review

You know Splash Mountain at Disneyland? Well, imagine you're on that ride but all of the moving animatronic animals are actually live people and there's no splashing water involved. Also throw in some Moonrise Kingdom set and costume design and Fawlty Towers witty back-and-forth dialogue and you've got yourself a very delicious final French pastry.... full review

This left me wanting more. I liked everything about this show. The casting was superb, the writing was great. It was very funny and all the jokes landed. Did a really great job of capturing Lennon's wit and passion. The casting for Lennon was on point and all in all the acting was very good. I wasn't expecting to laugh as much as I did given that the play surrounds such a pivotal moment in Lennon's life. I might even see it again.... full review
