Falling On Deaf Eyes

carol collins · June 24, 2019 certified reviewer
An autobiographical play on the subject of growing up with a deaf parent. It was a roller coaster of a ride with humor and a touch of pathos that we can all relate to, whether or not you know anything about the deaf community. Time well spent!... full review

An eerie tale that interlaces the ideas of the unity of the universe that keeps you on your toes the whole time. You spend the whole play trying to figure out the purpose and leaves you guessing until the very last moment. ... full review

A well written, expertly acted play that pulls the audience in through universal emotional themes- a story of healing, growth and sensitivity. Vanessa's characters express the inner monologues we all wrestle with, at times hilarious, vicious, kind, supportive or weepy. She masterfully reveals how life experiences can create these voices and how to address and heal them. Inspirational, entertaining, and skillfully written and performed. I love it and highly recommend seeing this show!... full review

(I’ll preface by saying it’s practically impossible to type this without crying due to the impact this show had on my soul.) Everyone needs to get their tickets NOW to the final performance! To the entire CHBGND team, I was blown away. I had NO idea what this show was about. Going in, I cringed, slightly afraid I would be offended or uncomfortable (since I previously struggled for years with bulimia); instead I was welcomed by the brusque, matter-of-fact dramedy surrounding the conundrum of s... full review

Bunny is simply adorable. And so is Christi Pedigo. A heartwarming, all-to-painfully-relatable story about life in the entertainment business and making your rent. Christmas in June is always a good thing and Bunny takes a woeful tale of trying to scratch by as an entertainer and turns it into an inspiring warm fuzzy holiday in your heart.... full review

Blackboxing is a painfully hilarious jab at pretty much most actors doing shows. Using incredible wit, and honesty, this show is a fun one for anyone involved in the industry. There were blurred lines for what was the show Travis was putting on and the show we were watching. ... full review

I am so glad I came out to see "This Way Yonder". What a compelling script that is both real and raw - with subtle humor mixed in! The cast is really great and the leading lady - Marjorie - just SLAYS in that role. If I wasn't trying to see more Fringe - I would for sure see this again!... full review

Mr. Langer and Ms. Fountain deliver powerful performances that somehow capture the general experience of every heartbreak by focusing on very specific details of one particular story. The tech methods applied during scene changes/breaks really gave the performance a polish which one could understandably not have been expecting, given the austere cozy venue. Compelling writing keeps a great pace for this 65 minute performance, which will leave you with a dry mouth and damp eyes.... full review

Who says you can't tell a great story in less than 30 minutes?  I would have seen this show no matter what because one of earliest fringeships, David Haverty, was involved.  He turned out to be just the tip of the iceberg when it came to the awesomeness of this production. ... full review

Jannica Olin is a gifted performer with such a powerful and personal story that the audience feels every emotion that she does. It was an honor to learn about the life-changing event that happened to her, and how she was able to turn it all around. Sweden’s loss is our gain, and I couldn’t be more proud of her, and the remarkable work that she and director Jessica Lynn Johnson put into this show.... full review
