Normaler Than Everyone held so much meaning in just 70 minutes. Brian Joseph brought us to the core of what all human beings feel when they are forced to reckon with the limitedness of life, which ironically brings us to the awareness of the unlimitedness of its preciousness. I left this show reminded of the excellence of ordinary moments, and of how normal it is to experience extremes of existence. I am a CODA and I strongly believe that one of our greatest gifts our Deaf parents give us is the ability to tell our story in our mother tongue (hand...?), alongside the spoken language(s) we use out in the hearing world. This play was a perfect example of bridging two worlds, two cultures, and two languages. This is what it feels like to be sandwiched in the middle of two worlds--almost like an alternate universe.
