VIRGIN

Siren Call

taylor engel · June 26, 2019 certified reviewer
Siren Call blew me away - it morphs before your eyes from comedy, to drama, to mystery - to something deep, subversive, and unbelievably intriguing. Louis Harrell and Annalee Scott are a thrill to watch as a couple at odds with not only one another, but with themselves, and Jola Cora shines in the most engaging and hypnotic performance I've seen in a very long time. ... full review

BlackBoxing is a riotous look at the relationship between the different creators in the world of theater reminiscent of Noises Off with a splash of Oscar Wilde and a dash of Monty Python. ... full review

Chrissy Meth~A Dance with the Devil and the Journey Back

jennifer chun · June 26, 2019 uncertified reviewer
This was an intimate experience - like a conversation with a dear girlfriend. Chrystal Bush is very welcoming and inclusive and we were pulled in, laughing and tearing up almost immediately. The casual way she addresses her audience makes the fourth wall disappear little by little as the show progresses until the end when she is talking directly to each of us. ... full review

The Seven Year Itch

Engaging, hilarious and at times, heartbreaking. Monika's interpretation of the role once played by Marilyn Monroe is both a faithful tribute as well as unique unto itself. Sandro and Monika's rapport is mesmerizing to watch. ... full review

Ask A Black Woman

Shanara pulls the audience in immediately and then gives a one two punch to the gut. And she doesn't let up. Five minutes in, I was cringing to hear each new part of her story unfold. As painful as it was to watch, I wanted more. This show is an amazing experience. At the end of it I felt heavy, like it was hard to get up out of my seat. But it was a good 'heavy.' It was a 'heavy' born of better understanding. ... full review

Caitlin Cook: Death Wish

The Journey of The Little Prince

james murn · June 26, 2019 uncertified reviewer
Started slow but then soon realized they had created great atmosphere and characters. Ended up loving it. Creative, imaginative. Just enough production but not too much. Exploration of innocence and calling out the 'busy grown-ups' was smiles and a boost in awareness as to how much we play that tired role. And it offered something in the way of solution in the line about using intuition and the sight of the heart. ... full review

This Way Yonder

Full disclosure: I am not a 'certified reviewer' because I was slated to see another show, but I arrived too late to get into to it, and rushed over to This Way Yonder. But I'm so glad that I did. I was parked in a one hour parking space (the show is over an hour) and I didn't care. I thought the play was well worth whatever I'd pay in parking fines.... full review

Stranger Things 2: The Musical Tribute

darcy rose byrnes · June 25, 2019 certified reviewer
Somehow the entire season 2 of Stranger Things was squeezed into a very short and very fun musical. Definitely worth seeing for fans of the show and anyone who likes sci-fi stories. While the show has it's fun, the actors play it for real which makes the laughs and the moments of silence much more satisfying. The staging is brilliant, I sat on the side and never once felt like I was missing anything.... full review

Brandon, Adam, and Drew have been working on this show for years and it really shows. The combination of the ridiculous narrative device and the teenage drama had the potential for problems but the writing and performances are so well crafted and executed that it totally overcomes that and it creates a wonderful experience that perfectly captures the essence of the time it’s portraying. Having seen the show more than once I can tell the show is getting better and better with each showing and I wo... full review

A fantastic ensemble makes this fantastical journey into a truly terrible town full of outrageous characters a fun experience with the potential for laughs. From false mustaches that just won't stay on to some of the best costume concoctions you can find, the cast morphs from one moment to the next, and in some cases, from one character to the next, with an ease that can make your head spin in pure delight.... full review
