One-person shows are a staple of the Fringe Festival, and this one definitely stands out. Kristina Mueller is gripping as Mama Mary, all-at-once hilarious, heart-wrenching, and powerful. And hats off to Troy Deutsch for creating a Trump piece that isn't anchored by hacky pandering (not an easy feat these days). Orangutan has something to say, and says it in a clever and unexpected way. ...

More heartfelt than I expected. I completely recognize the characters and the story that The Bully Problem brings forward. I remember being bullied in high school and looking for a place where I fit in. I created the computer club, for goodness sake, how much more of a geek did I need to be.
I found my outlet in college among amazing friends. We formed a club that welcomed everyone and sometimes met in a basement.
Okay, I’ll be honest. I think I know these characters and it had me moved to ...

A very captivating show! Stacy plays different characters but mostly herself as she recounts tales of her relationships with men - men who are intimidated by her smarts and find her to be “a bit much”. My take-away is that I want to be her best friend! She’s terrific! ...

Marty writes as well as directs , Fight or Flight, a bold play showcasing a young girl full of grit. It’s not an obvious play but it is a play of the times. We discover Zoey Jones, a young female fighter, looking for a gym to train at. Through Zoey whose about to have her first professional boxing fight, we discover an interesting look at female fighters finding support in/out of the ring, how much it takes mentally to fight with your fists in a ring, and how we build bonds and friendships with c...

Personally, I think this is the most well-structured and developed script that Robot Teammate has done at fringe so far. Plot details are set up that payoff so well, performances are lovable, and everything has this RT perspective to it that feels juvenile, yet polished and tongue-in-cheek....

As soon as you enter the theatre you immediately feel swooped into a classroom. What occurs after the teachers enter the space is a whirlpool of unexpected emotions as you begin to understand, the heartbreaking realities of apartheid. We all have heard the legend of Nelson Mandela but not so familiar is the story of the children of apartheid, who group trying to understand how was their country, not theirs? How they maneuvered with white voices echoing and stealing their rights. In a short amount...

What an eye-opening lesson into the life of Nell Gwynne, the English actress who is perhaps best known as the mistress of Charles II, whose frank recklessness, generosity, invariable good temper, ready wit, infectious high spirits, and amazing indiscretions that were popular in society as well as the King's Court - until he died and Puritanism set in. As performed by the "pretty and witty" Melanie Johnson, who manages to deliver writer/director Ryan J-W Smith's iambic pentameter monologue as if...

There was a subtle humor in the writing that helped balance the intensity of the subject matter. The writing powerfully addressed the complexities of colorism, racism, and different approaches of activism to portray the environment in 1964 as well as the environment today. Both actors did a great job at portraying their respective roles and embodying the nuances of very distinct individuals. All of that tied in with symbolism that perfectly reflected the progression of the perspective and attitud...

Great idea for immersive theater, especially for people who have been to neighborhood council meetings and are active on Nextdoor. The execution was good but could have had been livelier and funnier. With a title like "Town Brawl," I expected a much more energetic experience with more audience participation....

Exciting and painfully relatable, this tale of a control freak experiencing online dating will make you laugh, think and "aw" quite a bit, because Polly is rather romantic despite herself.

I absolutely adored this delightful musical! It was a delicious treat at the end of a hard day for me. I laughed so hard my seat shook. I have to admit, sometimes it came a little close to home as I have a daughter at Berkeley (just like the protagonist) who recently had to announce to her father (an Asian parent) that she was changing her major from Computer Science to English (much like the protagonist who changes hers from Microbiology to Theater Arts and East Asian Studies.) The parental 'dis...

CATHARSIS is a meditation on the (de) stabilizing effects of adoption. With paint, a canvas, a hammer, and a wood board, CATHARSIS captures the spirit of the Fringe! Megh will steal your heart with her carefree dancing and the way her voice crawls up behind your neck as she sings, like a secret you’ve been hiding. The time she takes within the space – no rushing, using pauses as action – will stir your soul. And when she begins to break the comfortable use of language while reading a letter from...
