The Institute for the Opposite of Longing

Very well written and a beautiful dark comedy. Out of the shows I saw at this years fringe this was my favorite by far. So well acted and an interesting story told with so much thought being put into every movement. ... full review

Wonderful and powerful! A very relevant piece of theatre that I wish I would have seen when I was a teenager. It would have helped me and probably even saved some. This play deals with body image issues in a world where we are never enough the way we are. Three actors play the same person and I love that. It was so greatly done and performed. ... full review

CORINA, From Lap dance to Sundance

A powerful story delivered in a powerful way. Corina Calderon holds nothing back in her show. Her vulnerability and honesty is inspiring and beautiful. Her story will help us judge less and see people for who they really are. To see the human being behind the oftentimes negative label of "being" a stripper. A must see. ... full review

One of my favorite shows! A very smart, clever and thought provoking creation. The writing is superb and the performance absolutely outstanding. I sat with a big smile on my face the entire time, hanging onto every word and action. I love how Jonathan is shedding a light on the lack of diversity in the film industry in such clever way. It is also a brilliant Fuck You to that and then goes on to invite the industry to expand, whilst he has taken control and done that for himself by creating thi... full review

"Broadway, here we come!" Seriously, this is one of the best shows I have seen! Even without the use of props and with minimal staging, the talent and skill of creator Joy Regullano and the fantastic cast; that's all you really need. Very clever, funny, heartfelt. Tiny little expressions from the actors and some very specific actions added to the story like sprinkles on a cupcake. This is truly fantastic! Broadway will happen someday, I'm sure of it. And/or a development into a Netflix series.... full review

This brilliant piece of work was so well executed, I was shocked my seat wasn’t in the mezzanine of a sold out Broadway show. The content is poignant, articulate, touching, and intensely relevant to our current cultural climate. The acting was gut wrenching and raw. So real, I felt like I needed a drink with “Brendan” after the final curtain call. The writer has a voice that needs to be screamed from the mountain tops.... full review

Such an intimate, vulnerable, probing and -- in its own way -- comforting experience. These creators have really taken a point of view and crafted an experience that will speak to each of us, both the eager and the disbeliever. It's also just a solid 20 minutes of fun.... full review

The Mayor's Debate of Tranquility, Nebraska

This is the funniest show I've seen in the 2019 Hollywood Fringe Festival. Writer and star Jim Hanna continues to be one of the best comedy writers out there. His jokes are always set up well beforehand and pay off beautifully while the story unfolds. This show is so much more than a simple Mayors debate in a small town. I won't ruin it but it goes to a place that was totally unexpected for me, and that pushed it over the edge into something really great. Highly recommended.... full review

This deeply moving and incredibly personal family story spoke directly to me since I am also a descendant of European European Jews who fled their homes in Poland and Russia and made their way to America to be sure their children and future generations would survive and have a better life. As Moti prepared his Grandmother's cake from ingredients in Mason jars, it reminded me of standing in my own Grandmother's kitchen watching her cook many of the specialties I watched her prepare with nary a mea... full review

This show is FANTASTIC. Definitely one of my favorites of the 2019 Fringe Festival. "Dark comedy" is a term that's thrown around a lot, and Pit of Goblins takes the phrase all the way to the very edge... and then pushes it into a pit. (yes of goblins). This show has genuine laughs and times that were so sad the audience didn't know what to do, and it all worked perfectly. From the opening moments where the main character is dragging a body out into the woods to speak to his therapist, I knew I wa... full review

You'd be hard-pressed to find this kind of stupidity anywhere else. And I mean that in the best way. Mil Grus is one part performance art, two parts improv comedy, and five parts avant-garde nonesense. And I loved every single one of those parts! The entire bouffon ensemble are as irresistibly funny as they are repulsive. They have the audience in the palm of their hand the whole time. Like a fickle feline, they push us away and pull us back in on a whim. A well devised show, excellently performe... full review
