Tattered Capes

dallis seeker · June 28, 2019 certified reviewer
TATTERED CAPES accomplished the difficult task of taking a genre that has traditionally existed solely in print or onscreen and making it work for the stage. Gregory Crafts does a terrific job of crafting all of the nostalgia, geeky fun superhero tropes, and social/moral discourse that surround these larger-than-life heroes. This is a must see! Surely it will be extended, so if you aren't able to catch it at Fringe, make it a priority to keep an eye out for additional performances!... full review

THE BULLY PROBLEM

After watching multiple developmental readings and workshops of this show (including one where it was critiqued by musical theatre luminaries Steven Schwartz and Dean Pitchford), I'm thrilled to say that The Bully Problem has arrived! Congrats to Michael, the cast, and the team from NMI on a job well done. ... full review

Always Open

At first I thought the show was going to be centered around the guy with the flannel around his waist. He’s purposefully a little obnoxious and interrupts his girlfriend, so you don’t know whether or not you should like him. But then, the girlfriend ends up sticking up for herself and you realize the play doesn’t center around them at all. In fact, it centers around the diner itself and how a central meeting place can bring so much life into one room. This is a story about a diner and how people ... full review

POCKETS

gregory crafts · June 28, 2019 uncertified reviewer
Throughout the history of the Hollywood Fringe, Robot Teammate has consistently offered clever, well-executed musicals that ooze with talent and charm, and they've done it once again with POCKETS, their British-ish tale of teenage rebelution and breakfast pastries. Run, don't walk, to catch this show and discover "The Gift of the Lift."... full review

A Bit Much

april wish · June 28, 2019 certified reviewer
Intelligently written, the play winds it’s way through awkward dates and mixed signals to land some very real punches of truth and self discovery. She uncovers many layers of being “too much” and bravely turns her judgment to herself in a moment I won’t soon forget, as she realizes that she must challenge herself to accept others in the way she wants to be accepted. Beautiful. ... full review

Ascend: When Myths Fall, Heroes Rise

The immersion was quite good - I like the overall concept of the show and can easily see how it would be carried even further. I enjoy that the deities are meant to have a level match with the audience members, with my main drawback being that the show deals with a 'numbers' issue, but which I think can be solved through progressive ironing out.... full review

Fun fun fun! Missed my High School Prom so I guess this pretty much made up for it! Got a lot of hugging in! Not so much kissing but lots of grinding! Plenty of drinking! That makes for a good prom, right?! Oh and dancing.... did I do any dancing? I kinda lost track after the drinking.... ended up at Pinks after and I have plenty of photos to post, so it looks like I had a great time!!!😁❤️❗️... full review

This show really hits home near the end, drawing it out from the darkness her personal struggles and into the light of the reality of just how common and insidious mental illness is. A brave and honest look at not only her family, but herself, it was really special to see Anne-Marie emerge victorious. The show felt extremely personal and intimate. ... full review
