Over the weekend at Workshop II, we did a lot of talking about where and when to spend your dollars when producing a Fringe show. The overall consensus was that there are no hard and fast rules— that you need to do what’s best for you, your production and most importantly, your story.

Every year we host a series of Twitter Chats in order for Fringers to meet and mingle online before the festival begins. It’s a great way to recruit audiences and make #fringeships long before June. You’ll get to tweet about how the process is going for you as well as the opportunity to chat with Fringe staff members.
This year we’ll be hosting the Twitter Chats at the following times:
March 23rd, 1:00-2:00pm PDT
April 6th, 7:00-8:00pm PDT
April 20th, 1:00-2:00pm PDT
May 4th, 7:00-8:00pm PDT
May 18th, 1:00-2:00pm PDT
June 1st, 7:00-8:00pm PDT
All you have to do to join the discussion is use the hashtag #hff15. The chat will be moderated by the @HollywoodFringe account. Can’t make the time but still want to participate? All you have to do is schedule a tweet or two using one of the many available Twitter clients.
Twitter Tips:
- You can only use 140 characters (including spaces and punctuation) in every tweet so brevity is key.
- To say something publicly to someone, you can type their Twitter handle into your message (anything that has an “@” before it is someone’s Twitter handle/user name). Other Twitter users will be able to see these messages.
- To say something privately to someone, you can send them a Direct Message (they will have to be “following” you first).
- To take part in the Fringe conversation, include the hashtag #hff15 in your tweets. You can also search the same hashtag to see what other Fringers are saying
- Don’t spam people on Twitter. Use it thoughtfully. Post pictures of your rehearsal process, links to your fundraising page, ask people questions about their own production, but DO NOT send the same message fifty times to every Twitter handle you can find. This will directly oppose any goals you may have to make friends.

You (or one of your friends) can be the head graphic designer for the 2015 Hollywood Fringe Festival! All you have to do is enter our design contest.
Click here to navigate directly to the contest page.
Dates of the Contest
You can start submitting your designs for the qualifying round starting Monday, February 23rd. To ensure your design is eligible for the final round, make sure we receive your concept by the end of the day on Thursday, February 26th.
What We Want You to Design
Every year, we produce a printed guide of all the shows produced at our festival. This contest is centered around the GUIDE COVER IMAGE; the seminal representation of the 2015 festival.
Here are the guides from our first five years:
2014 Guide
2013 Guide
2012 Guide
2011 Guide
2010 Guide
Generally, the cover image includes our mascots – “the freaks”. The five main freaks are included on the cover of the 2012 & 2013 Guides. The “look” of these freaks should be adapted to fit the your unique aesthetic so feel free to play into your comfort zone (see the links above for examples of previous adaptations).
The winner of this contest is immediately eligible for additional work finishing off the rest of the guide design. See below for more info.
The Big Prize
The winner of the contest will receive $799 (minus the commission taken by 99Designs) and be eligible for more money to finish off the guide, produce the button and complete other branding needs. Anyone can participate, they just need to create a (free) account on 99Designs.com.
We’d also adapt the images above to be used as print and online ads.
Other Info
Our team has lots of experience working with designers and we have in-house adobe suite experts, so we won’t be constantly going to you for minor updates.
We are ready to answer your questions, so feel free to communicate at will. Just email us at [email protected].
Thanks for your interest and we look forward to your submissions!
