Love Me Richie!

Overall, I enjoyed the show, although I think it was too short. The story was well written but could easily be expanded to provide the audience a little more information. The cast was incredible and mostly believable, although the shortness of the play didn't really allow the characters to develop. Would love to see this play again in a longer format.... full review

Double Bind

Watching Double Bind was like preparing a meal in a slow cooker. You add water and the various ingredients, then turn the heat on low so that the meal can cook slowly, holding in all the flavors of the ingredients until the meal slowly comes together. Lyons' captured all the nuances of the incredible script from Blake Shields Abramovitz (who also stars as Frank), as one by one the ingredients are added to the slow cooker. Adding to the mix were Clark Freeman as Sam and Ceri Bethan as Laura. ... full review

KEENA: UNBRANDED The Solo Experience

bob leggett · June 25, 2013 certified reviewer
This show has been on my to-do list since the beginning of Fringe. When I met writer/performer/dancer Keena Ferguson, I was simply taken in by her beauty, her humor and her personality, and knew I had to see this show. Keena is a force to be reckoned with, as she took us on an incredible journey through the art of music, dance, poetry and storytelling, to arrive at a critical juncture where reality finally meets up with understanding. ... full review

Comedy, Death, and a New Ferrari

Considering this show was directed by Jonathan Munoz-Proulx, a prevous Best of Fringe winning director for Piano Man, I knew the show was in good hands. In addition, the comic genius of Jennifer Rendel is obvious in this very touching and heartfelt story about the search for the meaning of life. It will make you laugh, cry and acknowledge that the old adage, Laughter is the best medicine, is the best way to live your life.... full review

Listen... Can You Hear Me Now?

bob leggett · June 24, 2013 certified reviewer
Rosen effectively conveyed the hazards and challenges of being a hearing child surrounded by the deaf, a community that can be very cold to, and untrusting of, those who can hear. I felt her frustrations, her struggles, and her triumph as she was able to move on with her life, never forgetting the lessons her parents taught her. Above all, this is a lesson in tolerance with those who are different, and an object lesson on making the best of whatever circumstance in which we find ourselves. ... full review

Death, Cancer & Other Bumps In The Road...

Laney takes us on a familar journey through her life. Along the way she enlightens us on her struggles and the resulting effects on her life. Laney is a gifted storyteller, pulling the audience in through a cosmic connection that makes one feel like they have walked with her on her journey. Despite the struggles, Laney's show gives hope - of a future free from these bumps in the road and the freedom to enjoy it. I highly recommend this show. ... full review

HerSheMe

This show belongs in a category all its own. It was breathtakingly beautiful, from the poetry on which it was based, to the heartwrenching performance of each actor on stage. It reminded me a watching a ballet held in an art museum. While not "theatre" in the traditional sense, this is a remarkable piece that simply must be experienced by every lover of art. Huge kudos to the cast and the director - thanks for taking Fringe 2013 to a whole new level. ... full review

White Trash Wedding and a Funeral

This was the perfect release from the serious fare of the prior day, and left my sides hurting from laughter. I grew up in the south, and this play managed to capture every negative connotation and cliche associated with life in the South. But they made it so freaking funny so you overlook all the offensive topics and concentrate on the sex and beer loving, trailer park living, money grubbing crazies on stage, reveling in the laughs, the raunchy, crotch-grabbing humor and just letting loose. ... full review

JESUS RIDE

I admit I had heard alot about this show before I witnessed it, and let me tell you, for once you can believe the hype. This show is a masterpiece of storytelling and multi-media interaction. Michael can join the elite ranks with his show, which is funny, serious, cynical, trusting and in the end, triumphant. A tour de force performance that must be seen by all Fringe lovers.... full review

STRANDED

This is a show that should be seen. It presents a growing problem in America - the proliferation of sexual abuse and the all too common result of mental illness and violent behavior. Wonderfully written by Fiona Lakeland and directed by Adrian LaTourelle, the cast of Fiona Lakeland as Lucy and Kimberly Connolly as her younger sister Annabelle bring forth the writer's vision in startling clarity. What starts as a poignant drama between two sisters, abandoned by their parents, turns violent ... full review
