The Wheel of Invention

When I saw the description for this show, I immediately bought tickets. I also did not tell my roommate what we were seeing for this one, as she's a Disney fan and I wanted to see what her reaction to a show like this was going to be. And I almost feel like EVERYONE should take a real Disney fan with them when they go to see this show if they aren't one themselves--because this show is SO INSPIRED by Disney that you need to know HOW GOOD it actually is, and it IS THAT GOOD. Welcome to the terr... full review

Happy No Year

I love murder mysteries and comedies. So when a show wants to combine them AND add a "choose your own ending" to boot, you have my attention. So as soon as I heard about this production, I made sure to find time to attend it. Welcome to the party of New Year's Eve--literally, Eve's party. She has one every year and invites several holidays to attend. But none of them want to come, for various reasons. One of them is a drunk (St. Patty's Day), another is a joker (April Fool's). One is Thanksgi... full review

THUG TUNNEL

We did it. We damn dirty apes--we did it. But in this case, we failed to stop the environmental meltdown and the apocalypse came. And then we live in tunnels. THUG tunnels. So begins a goofy, half-punk, half-pop, pseudo-80's, mega-mix of a musical called Thug Tunnel. It's strange, bizarre, off-kilter, and (for the most part) a great deal of fun. Set in a world where people are largely living on rats and refuse, we meet Petunia, a woman who dares to have hope that the world above might have re... full review

Angel's Flight

I love the film noir genre. Love it with a passion. So I walked into Angel's Flight with a hope that I was going to enjoy what is billed as a "film noir-infused burlesque comedy" over at Three Clubs. Enjoy isn't the right word. DEVOURED is a far better choice. Angel's Flight is a BLAST and a gem of a parody of the film noir genre. Take a character determined to get to the bottom of a mystery. Take women who seem determined to either get in his way or make his life hell. Take some mobster-types... full review

MAD😜LIB! The Musical

It's late on a Fringe Friday/Saturday and you've seen show after show. How would you like to relax? Why not head over to Three Clubs and see a free, completely improvised musical to round out your evening? That's the premise behind the very fun, very free and ALWAYS entertaining MadLib the Musical. I first ran across this show during their previews before Fringe began and I tried them out once just to see if there was anything here. And to my surprise, I found the premise behind their show re... full review

Punch and Judy

Look, I'll be honest. I'm not a big Punch and Judy fan. Never much cared for the puppets or their ongoing feuds and violence and nonsense. Never much got it, cared for it, understood why kids were ever riveted by it. So when I say this show had me GLUED TO MY SEAT--you should understood how BLOODY DAMN GOOD it is. And bloody is EXACTLY the right word to use here. Some reviews I've seen for this show suggest a lack of blood. I disagree--I think there's quite a bit of blood. It's just tastefully... full review

Ruby

Ruby's got a problem--her boyfriend, Tommy, wants to sleep with her and she's just not feeling it. What to do? Have her fairy godmother send her back to the 1970's. of course! And with that, this VERY FUN, hip and sexy musical is off and running. I came to see this show because the general idea of the plot was intriguing. And I wasn't disappointed--it's exactly as goofy, strange and joyous as I wanted it to be. It happens because it does, the explanations are only as necessary as they need to ... full review

How to Be A Virgin (in 12 morally ambiguous steps)

erik blair · June 10, 2016 certified reviewer
Virginity is a big deal. Crossing that line means something for men--and even more, most people would say, for women. So if a woman reaches 30 and hasn't yet lost hers, is that strange? Funny? Sad? Lonely? Come see this fantastic play and you'll see that the answer is all of this--and none--and somewhere in-between. I wasn't sure exactly what I was in for when I walked into the lovely and intimate Studio C space for this show. But there was Katelyn Schiller, already our prime innocent adult, p... full review

Black Widow Laughs

Welcome to the amusing, sexy world of a speakeasy like none you've ever seen. The owners--not ones you'd really like to meet. The customers--some of them pure, simple folk and some of them with secrets bubbling just under the surface. A mix of death, sex and sultry humor that's spinning a web that may slaughter anyone in sight before it's over. This is not the easiest show to review. It's a story about creatures of the night who aren't entirely certain how to be such because they've never had ... full review

A Midsummer Night's Dream

Shakespeare plays have a tremendous weight to them that can drag casts down or lift them up with equal possibility. This production takes one of the most commonly seen and performed Shakespeare comedies and brings it renewed humor and energy and makes it a good family-friendly Fringe comedy that anyone can enjoy. Most theater going audiences have seen at least one Shakespeare play in their lives. Many of us have seen dozens. Many of us have been IN multiple Shakespeare plays ourselves. So each... full review
