I love the writing so much. It’s a beautifully crafted narrative, with excellent characters. Lenny shines in an arc that runs the gammot from abusive household to horrible addiction. Leah does an excellent job portraying a woman in constantly self-denial that after years of hiding behind her faith, must actually confront her reality.
What I didn't like
I felt that while, the performances were both lovely, the two main supporting characters in the mother’s life did more or less the same thing in the narrative and emotional arc and if combined would clarify intention and shave ten minutes off the play, improving the pacing.
My overall impression
This play does a beautiful job setting up the many struggles involved with loving someone no matter what, and the acceptance that requires. It grabs you with its beautiful writing, and the wonderful performances elevate the play to excellence. I cried throughout the second act.
