What I liked

The “tribal acting” gave this story an interesting angle and depth. I enjoyed the physicality of the performance, especially the tête-à-tête between the gossip columnists.

What I didn't like

Given the thesis of this story – to give voice to these three actors who vied for the part of Scarlett O’Hara – it was a little too trapped in the male lens. One of the actors simply died “unknown” as if she were buried in an unmarked grave, but that’s a epitaph written by a studio executive, not by the woman herself. The stories were also wrapped in how men in the industry treated them, without much background into who they were or why they wanted the part. I want to know more about these women!

My overall impression

“Tribal acting” is new to me, and it made the story of a search for a new star resonate on a physical level. The actors did wonderful work incorporating this style while maintaining connection to the text and audience.
