Shakespeare gave us Romeo and Juliette. Inspired by Romeo and Juliette, Leonard Bernstein and Stephen Sondheim gave us Maria and Tony in West Side Story. Lawrie Chiaro Smylie has given us a new and powerful love story in Let's Write a Musical now playing at the Hollywood Fringe Festival 2019. Featuring superb direction by John Coppola, and a versatile and exuberant cast, Let's Write a Musical takes the audience on an emotional roller coaster ride mixing humor, slapstick, tenderness and cruel fate, all in fast moving doses. In the end, the young couples, who should be together, find each other and take themselves, 'Out of Play.' David and Lucy must finally part but they only do so after creating a magical musical. ... full review

FABULOUS!!!!!! How you can write a musical with this topic and have it be completely joyous, I don't know. Kudos to the writers. The entire cast was excellent but the stand out, for me, is Cameron Gilliam who takes John Coppola's BRILLIANT staging and just flies with it. John Coppola has this amazing ability to give actors physical things to do that add humor and fun to every moment. I've been seeing 2 and three shows a day practically at the Fringe and this is the MOST fun by far. ... full review

I laughed, I cried, I felt my heart lurch, I loved this show and am so impressed by Lawrie and the cast’s talent. I wish Lawrie bowed on the stage because she deserves one hell of an applause for what she’s created.... full review
