I liked the singing (despite some technical issues) and there were some nice performances. The routines with the whole ensemble of “bullies” and “nerds” were what I found most entertaining.
What I didn't like
The characters and the plot were pretty straightforward. I would have liked to have been more surprised by the story. The whole woman helps man find his heart story has been played out time and again. I found myself wanting to know more about the bullies, too, their broken families, disadvantaged lives. It’s sort of treated as an after thought with little to tell us about them or why they behave the way they do.
My overall impression
It’s called the Bully Problem, but you never get to know the bully’s problems. The bullies come across as a mean spirited, totally cliche, sad lot of one dimensional characters.
The singers were talented though, but the story was predictable, and the characters cliche. It was a well produced, however, especially for Fringe budget I would imagine with some talented performers. Overall, it’s probably better suited for a young audience.
