The concept of an egotistical, novice solo act attempting to collaborate with a Stage manager who’s seen it all is just so so fun.
The Freakin’ turkey song had me in tears I was laughing so hard.
So many great vocal reactions from “jim”
Ritchey’s passion was clear and present.
I liked almost everything about this piece.
What I didn't like
I want to say right off the bat that both Jim and Matthew were WONDERFUL. However, there were times where I didn’t quite believe Mr. Ritchey. It felt like sometimes he was ‘trying’ to be this character rather than being this character completely and honestly. Even the depression bit felt a little forced. I think Mr. Ritchey has a really strong piece here and it’s so so close to being 100%. Both the script and his performance. So so close. That being said, I truly was very very entertained through out.
I didn’t like the radio bit.
When he actually begins his performance (in front of an audience) I was a little confused cause the first thing he did was the rock number which none of us saw before during the rehearsal. I think it would be stronger for his solo show to start with something we had seen before so we can then know for sure that the SM was messing around with it. As a result of how ‘on’ the lighting was in that scene, it felt like they had worked through it? Or he got another SM? When the last thing you hear is “Good luck” in a sarcastic ‘over it’ tone from the SM…
