I really liked the use of the whiteboard and how it set the stage throughout in showing that this is an inescapable performance. I felt like every element, from lighting to wardrobe choices, was executed carefully, bringing the entire emotional journey taken with these characters to a very satisfying end.

My overall impression
With My Eyes Shut is definitely a piece that should be seen by everyone. It gives perspective on how neurodivergent people understand those around them, while also showing how they can relate to one another. Directed by Tara Donovan, the show moves with great momentum, making a fantastic use of sound, color, and space. Craig Shields displays an incredible musical talent throughout. I was thoroughly surprised to see someone with the ability to play the xylophone so well. Esther Mira gives the piece an elegant and challenging dance performance that brought life to the piece through movement. It’s a must-see for Fringe 2018.
