What I liked

The performances were hot! These actors shift from total authenticity to camp/comedy in the blink of an eye. A joy to watch in every moment.

What I didn't like

This play is ready for a rowdy audience! You will not be wasting your precious life moments or your money with Converted!

My overall impression

Sometimes you have to laugh to keep from crying! Writer/director William Tolan Lawrence’s Converted: the Exorcism of Matthew Hall is a stark, hilarious, and unapologetic take on Conversion Therapy that dramatizes a moment when religion, homophobia, and unchecked capitalism collide with the will of a fully actualized gay youth who refuses to drink the kool-aid of the Self-Righteous! Lawrence’s direction is spare and stylized, taking advantage of a talented cast of performers capable of navigating delightfully surprising shifts in style and performance genre. The audience toggles between hysteria and revelation, and by the time we hit the finish line (thank you for having a tight show- 38 minutes!) we have received holy lessons that we cannot forget. Anything but flaccid- Converted woos us with humor, but drives its message home with a savage refusal to reject its nature. Brava!
