What I liked

Several of the characters from Frankie’s childhood, whom he portrayed convincingly as people whom anyone would distrust, turned out to be people who changed, and switched from enemies to allies. This gave me hope for humanity.

What I didn't like

I assume, based on the context of Frankie growing up as the only black boy in his town, that all the other characters were not black (other than his family members). However, for a few of the characters who gave Frankie advice (specifically, Billy, on the fishing trip, who encourages Frankie to defend himself), I found myself wondering if they were black or not. It doesn’t matter which, but it was an ambiguity for me as an audience member.

My overall impression

I was so entranced by Cooper’s authentic story-telling, that I was shocked when it was over. I could’ve listened for another hour.
