Sherry Berg delivers a spot-on Buffy that is true to the original TV characterization without looking like an overly campy, Shatner-esque impersonation. Berg’s Buffy is sharp, quippy, kinetic – she owns the stage and flat-out SELLS the character.
Corinne Mestemacher’s Bella is a wickedly funny Bella, whether bratty or blase or both. So much fun to watch.
Kim Dalton’s packs a whole lot of voice and comedy into a short amount of stage time for Dawn and Jane.
Casey Suddeth’s Spike and Edward were distinct yet equally terrific send-ups of the original characters.
Terrific references to plot points from both universes. Enthusiastic performances by everyone in the cast, top-to-bottom.
Biting dialogue which praises and jabs at both series – but lovingly, as only a true fan could do – yet still broad enough for novices to enjoy.
Wiley’s songs are confident and well-crafted. She definitely builds on her already entertaining work on “Winter Is Coming” from last year’s Festival.
What I didn't like
This is a concept worth expanding and developing further. SO much material to possibly cover, yet what was covered was definitely FUN to watch.
A little less double/triple-casting (if possible) might help give the actors more room to distinguish their different roles, and also to avoid awkward costume change time.
Overall, though – this was a REALLY good time. Can’t wait to see what Wiley tries next!!!
My overall impression
Laura Wiley delivered a funny, creative, entertaining production for fans and novices of both shows. A terrific time for anyone with even a passing awareness of pop-culture vampire lore over the past 20 years. Enthusiastic, spot-on performances by all involved. A lovingly biting and snarky tribute to both series!
