What I liked

Attempting to translate a history lesson about a Korean king into a 1 hour show is extremely difficult and for that, I commend The King’s Language for pulling it off with style. Educational, funny, touching, and moving, the actors performed admirably with a shoutout to Zoe Kim who anchored the whole show.

What I didn't like

My ONLY problem is that because the show had such a short run-time, it came off more educational than emotional (even though it was there) when it should be the other way around. We didn’t really get to know what the King was really like, only from what we were told by the narrator. The focus was divided a bit too much between who we should place our attention on and the show falters a bit for that without having a true emotional core beating through the whole thing.

My overall impression

Despite the show placing a heavy emphasis on the educational value rather than the emotional one, the show is a remarkable and unique play about the Korean king who created the Korean language. It is also extremely relevant to the current political situations in the U.S. now but you will have to see the show to discover that for yourself :)
