What I liked
Jonathan Tipton Meyers has the gift of keeping you in the present moment with him from start to finish. I never felt like I wasn’t in the theater. It is refreshing to stay in the moment and never leave the vehicle, so to speak. His style embraces the space, the audience and the moment in time that is this performance. It is a reminder why going to see live theater is so vital.
What I didn't like
I will go see other incarnations of this show. As with any good storytelling, even if the stories are the same, the teller has more to add based on where they are now. Jonathan Tipton Meyers is a performer who keeps you interested in every detail from start to finish because he is interested himself to know the meaning of what he is telling. The ending gives us the hope he himself was looking for in the story and brings us closer together. Though I went by myself to the show I left feeling like I made a few friends with my fellow riders.
My overall impression
“We are Traffic” takes you on all the twists, turns and side trips that a ride share pool in an Uber or Lyft might take you on if your driver were the talented and charming Jonathan Tipton Meyers. From start to finish Jonathan includes you in the experience as if you are one of his ride share clients. All the characters are so present in Jonathan’s telling of the stories that this doesn’t really feel like a solo show. You definitely feel a part of the “We” in “We are Traffic.” With economical support of a few photos and graphics and excellent invisible direction by Harry Kakatsakis the show is a fun ride start to finish.
