The Wishbone Theatre Collective has seemingly come out of nowhere to create one of the great theatre pieces of this year's Fringe festival. Built around a somewhat sordid event involving a passionate affair and a cast-off lover, the company uses vaudeville, contemporary comedy riffs, stylized theatre, and real emotional urgency to create a tapestry that tells the tale of murderess Laura D. Fair in the west of the late 1800's. The performances by this cast of eight are stellar, but special mention must be made of Laurie Jones' turn as the anxiety-laden Dr. Lyford, a portrayal that would make comedy goddess Carol Burnett proud. Very well-done and entertaining! Great acting! Sure, there's scandal, betrayal, and murder - but there's also a lot of humor and (hey!) the killing is a crime of passion...and it's completely understandable, anyway! Let's face it - you'd probably kill under similar circumstances, too! A fabulous show!...

Fair was my favorite Fringe show this year! I loved the balance of realism, humor, surreality, and drama. The cast is incredibly talented, the script was well-written, and the show's direction was pitch-perfect....

Meant to write a review a while back for this wonderful show! I didn't know much about the show when I entered the theatre but was SO happy to have caught it. The play was incredibly well devised. The structure of the storytelling was unique and very effective. Funny meta nods to the audience, well thought out sound design and transitions helped move from moments of heartbreaking intimacy to off-the-wall circus court scenes. The whole cast (truly all of them) were top notch, generous, fully connected talents. They went balls to the wall and drove the story successfully from start to finish. I left the theatre feeling the joy of the production but also the ache that we, as a society, haven't moved far enough away from the realities of Laura D...
