SEETHISSHOW!
This is the kind of show that is going places, the kind of show from which everyone involved will be a Big Deal someday, and the kind of show you’ll kick yourself for not seeing back when it was so much easier to get tickets.
SEETHISSHOW!
The writing, the direction, the performances, every element is on point. More than that, though, the very fact that such a fantastic show has been created around a strong, competent, badass female character who is tough, sexual, loving, vulnerable, and is never asked to apologize for being a fully-realized human person? Well, this certainly shouldn’t be as noteworthy as it is, but it is.
SEETHISSHOW!
Oh, and did I mention it’s hilarious? Because it absolutely is! From the very beginning, you realize that it’s not going to wait around for you to catch up. Your best bet is to hold on tight and hope to catch at least a third of the rapid-fire dialogue, chock full of clever jokes. Like the best episodes of “Arrested Development,” a show like this benefits greatly from repeated viewings.

Finally, while the whole cast is at the top of their game, special acknowledgement goes to Carrie Keranen. While every other actor I believe plays multiple roles, Carrie appears in nearly every scene as the eponymous Lamprey and freaking kills it. Every second she’s on stage, she finds new angles and levels to her character, while never once betraying what she’s already built. The character is written as well-rounded, insane, smart, flawed, caring, boorish, and everything in between, but it’s Carrie’s performance, the life she breathes into this woman, that truly makes her believable. See this show if for no other reason than to say that you got to see Carrie Keranen before she hit it big, as she absolutely will. But, for whatever reason, the most important this is…
