Imaginative and Amusing Parodies of Famous Musical Theatre Characters
What I didn't like
Suffocating Smoke, and Lots of It—-for No Discernible Reason. Also, at this performance, Poor Theatre Management keep the audience lined up on the street until 829PM—-for an 830 curtain!—-creating unnecessary confusion and a delayed start which ran past the original break time.
My overall impression
Last year’s Fest favorite is back, intact but 43% longer, the better to bolster it’s (off-off-)Broadway ambitions, with a new side-trip to THEWESTSIDESTORY and a soupcon of HAMILTON. It will probably delight Musical Theater wonks on the Other Coast next month, although it’s still a slender, one-dimensional thread on which to hang some spiffy song parodies of Broadway icons. It’s lucky to have a uniformly splendid cast (especially ALLIECOSTA as a beleaguered ANNIE). The Main Miscalculation is a wild overuse of chemical smoke—-a pointless nuisance, without warning—-which swamps the stage and saturates the sinuses of the audience all evening long! Why?
