My overall impression
Finding the right medium to tell your story is tricky. And using your own personal journey as the biopic-topic can be dangerous. Adding original songs (as catchy as the Meow Mix jingle), dance numbers and baton twirling to this effort is a Herculean task that could break weaker men but Marc Francoeur scores a massive triumph with all the above in “Skanky Me from Kankakee”. The show retraces the path of Marc’s budding sexuality and coming-of-age in the Illinois suburbs to the tune of his high-energy, hilarious, touching songs and dance routines. From awakening to young love, self-acceptance to acceptance from others, Marc’s obvious dedication to making this story great, the great band and cast make getting a chance to relive some of these universal milestones through Marc’s eyes a treasure I’ll remember.
