To start with a warning - if you see this show, sit in the first two or three rows. Many of the performers' voices do not carry much further than that. That being said, I sat in the second row and had a great time. For the most part, the performers are confident in the material and perform it with excellent timing, fully inhabiting the wacky/campy characters. The show itself is entertaining, even while freely admitting to its own silliness at times. I can see where less confident performances could have doomed the show, but the performance I saw was thoroughly enjoyable.... full review

DEICIDE: A SORTA MUSICAL is a hilarious, dystopian farce in the Charles Busch mold. The cast is committed and energetic, the script zips along, the costumes are attractive and whimsical (and frequently revealing!) and the design makes inventive use of cardboard sets and props to tell a sweeping tale in a swift eighty minutes.... full review

If you have deep religious beliefs, I would NOT recommend "Deicide." But if you're open minded and enjoy irreverent and outrageous humor, this might be up your alley. The cast, mostly composed of Occidental College grads, obviously had fun putting this together with handmade props, costumes and cleverly contrived schtick. They don't pick on any specific religion....just organized religion in general. Just be forewarned.... full review

There's a lot in Brandon Baruch and Michael Ciriaco's "Deicide: A Sort of Musical" that ought to be funny. After all it makes fun of religion, science, liberals, stupid people, fanaticism, botox and Oprah. But making fun of something doesn't necessarily make it funny. The look of the production is interesting, reminding me of children's Bible storybooks with wonderfully saturated costumes (Laura Wong) and the cool card board cut out set and props (David Offner). The music was just ok, nothing memorable. Most of the time the sound overpowered the actors singing --The Paul Gleason is not a good venue for musicals. I really wanted to like this show. Baruch writes in his director's notes "I hope you enjoy the show. If you don't... w... full review

When I first heard about this show, I was very skeptical - both of its content and believability. However, after watching it last night, I have a new-found respect. While I come out on the side of Michael vs. Brandon, the science vs. God controversy has never been presented in such a fun, entertaining and sexy way - and they're all going to HELL! (If you've seen the show, then you understand this reference) I recommend this show, however, make sure you have an open mind before attending - your experience will be much more fun that way. Kudos to the actors and Brandon for a job well done!... full review
