My overall impression
I really enjoyed this piece.
The play is primarily set in a courtroom with several flashbacks that puts the audience at specific events as the story pans out. The clever storytelling keeps you guessing at what has actually transpired until it climactically explodes in a moment of terror.
The acting was superb- characters were multi layered, horrible, wonderful, and terrific. A true gothic tale of flawed characters in a flawed world.
My only critique of this piece was the excessive use of blackouts as we were taken back and forth between events along the plays timeline. Personally, I prefer transitions that are less cut and dry and that flow from one moment into the next with subtle lighting changes, character movement, or shifts in focus. It’s just a personal preference of mine- but in no way changes my adoration for this show.
While I was only able to catch the final performance, I look forward to seeing this production mounted again in the future and I think you all should keep a watch out for it.
