My overall impression

Over-all, the simple sets were nice. I didn’t mind the lighting either. One thing that I found confusing was that for a company called “Three of a Kind” it was strange that the selected plays didn’t appear to have a common thread. It actually took me out of it a little toward the end trying to figure out what that common link might have been.
The first play was nice, I enjoyed the different characters’ own brand of “nervous.” I kept rooting for the girl to get out of the roller coaster, but wasn’t disappointed with the ending. Again, the simple set was nice, and the stark lighting was fitting.
The second one was uncomfortable. I kind of get the feeling that “uncomfortable” was what they were trying to get out of it. That being said, I found myself not caring about the characters, like at all, and actually couldn’t wait for it to be over. Snow and sound was pretty cool.
And, unfortunately, I didn’t like the third one at all. Obviously they were trying to convey a point-of-view, but they did so with such broad strokes that it ended up just being offensive. And I think that’s safe to say no matter which side of the line you personally reside. Set was cute, interesting use of actual media sound bytes.
Over-all, it had a pretty strong beginning, but came crashing down by the end. Was that the common thread: starting with a ride and ending with a crash? Like a failed roller coaster ride? In any case, I would probably see a show by this company again. Hopefully next time, the three plays have something in common.
