Hands-down the most exciting show I've seen at the fringe this year, Porter's Macbeth condenses, physicalizes, and adds a great deal of humor and humanity to the Scottish Play. Cowboys & Indians blew me away last year with Wolf Girls, and at the onset of "Maizy" I was delighted to find that their latest production is equally enchanting and theatrical. Laura's dark humor pushes boundaries and raises a lot of interesting and ironic questions, but when during the preview performance, she rushed through setting up the construct for the show - asking "How did I get here?!" - I found myself floundering to understand where in time we were and why exactly I, as audience member, should care. A shining example of one-person-show-done-right, Cynthia's performance was relatable, intimate, and full of charming humor. Beautifully structured and smartly directed, she invites the audience to participate in the journey of three women, each uniquely of their time and place. Another gem from Gregory Crafts! Follow adorkable superhero sidekick Inky as he conquers his fears, outsmarts the bad guys, and wins over the princess, with some great original musical numbers along the way. I'd love to see this piece play a big house, and encourage fringers to check it out in this very important development period. Simple, sweet, and with a delightful twist at the end, this is a theatrical treat for fans of "No Exit" and other existential riddles. I thought I knew what was coming but was pleasantly surprised to find myself wrong. This is a review of the production of YD that was at the Elephant in 2010: Playfully directed by Jeremy Aluma, The Yogamerican Dream paints a hilarious and heartwarming picture of the multifarious contemporary yoga practitioner. I laughed out loud, I marveled at Gates' yogic abilities, and I enjoyed the ride as she shared many perspectives and glided from one unique character to the next.
