Sleeping Around

kat primeau · June 09, 2015 certified reviewer
Sleeping Around is a funny, sincere, beautifully honest, and tightly directed take on modern intimacy, or the lack thereof. I laughed out loud, I cried at the truthfulness of the piece, and I thoroughly enjoyed the talented ensemble and all they put into this production!... full review

Gotta love a show which features two grown men covered in bird shit! Strongly acted, chock full of interesting facts, this show is smart and sharply done. I seem to have 'missed the boat' on the stakes and the reality of the premise, however, so the 2nd act dragged for me. ... full review

Is He Dead?

kat primeau · June 11, 2012 certified reviewer
Coeurage continues to produce high-quality classical theatre with panache, and 'Is He Dead?' does not disappoint. Twain's slapstick comedy raises the bar for fringe audiences on the hunt for something with a little more substance, with beautiful period costuming, razor sharp direction, and a taut ensemble led by the endlessly hilarious Deven Simonson. I cannot wait to see this company continue grow and garner more fans, a fate they most certainly deserve!... full review

The Lights Are Off

Soson's play feels like an updated This Is Our Youth, with more laughs, more heart, and more characters to love to hate. Frighteningly realistic, The Lights Are Off addresses college drug use, relationships, abuse and violence with a refreshing poetry and candor. Bookended by beautiful live music, acted by a promising young ensemble, and co-produced by the ever-effervescent Priscilla Watson, TLAO and The Working Theatre are sure to be one of the stronger ensemble showings at the Fringe.... full review

Mission To Mate

Pure theatrical foreplay, Mitchell's three movements teased and enticed and left me feeling all hot and bothered. Seriously. It was a sensation built throughout the production, and not fully realized until I left the theatre for the light of day, but sex was there in all of it's awkward, funny, over-powering glory. Alla Poberesky's husky voice lends to a commanding and sensuous performance, which was pleasantly grounded by Michael Sanchez' candid dweebiness in an overall sharply-written, strong... full review

I Do Card Tricks And I'm Funny

I love magic, and Jon did not disappoint. Like a show straight out of the Magic Castle, he was genuinely funny and truly engaging. If you aren't lucky enough to get in to the Castle yourself, gather around his table for some close up slight of hand that will have you wondering, "what the...?" long after you leave.... full review

The Booby Prize

Laugh out loud funny, smart, and endearingly self-deprecating, Czerner's solo show embodies post-third-wave-feminism ideals hidden behind a mountain (or two) of zingers. A studied yet charming performer, she brings the audience on a fast-paced journey from failure to empowerment without preaching, for a total experience women of all ages can, and should, relate to.... full review

Voices from Chornobyl Jr.

I encourage parents and educators to take advantage of this incredible resource that is equal parts entertaining and informative. In under 40 minutes, the audience is welcomed into the very relatable world of a young girl and her family who once lived near the Chornobyl nuclear power plant. Utilizing simple metaphors, song, and language that is always clear and never condescending, complex issues such as radiation poisoning and nuclear power are defined, replacing fear with knowledge and impartin... full review
