It’s so hard to wade through all of the hyperbole of “GREATEST SHOW IVE EVER SEEN” and “WHY ISNT THIS ON BROADWAY?!!!” that always appear on these fringe reviews. I will say this; this is a tough show to watch content wise but you would be doing your art a great disservice by missing it. One of the top three shows I have seen at this year’s fringe. ...

Rogue Machine Theatre Company do great work in Hollywood all year round. Their participation in the festival is to be welcomed, HFF is all the richer for it.
We Are Not These Hands follows the desperate journey of two fifteen year old girls, Moth (Cecily Glouchevich) and Belly (Emily James), struggling to survive a world in ruin. In this dark, dystopian society filth is flavor, porn is incessant, and violence is the status quo. Their dream is to get “‘cross the river” to the capitalist society...

Anjali (Danielle Larson) has a safe, government-issued job with limited upward mobility. Ven (Alejandro Parron) is blue-collar maintenance man with a yearning for better things. In this dystopian future, however, repairing and caring for a sex robot has its limitations. These sexual surrogates have become necessary after an unnamed disease swept thorough the population, leaving millions of dead. Human interactions and sexual activity are highly restricted, hence the creation of these safe and cle...

A black sergeant cries out in the night, "They still hate you," then is shot twice by an unseen killer and falls dead. Set in 1944 at Fort Neal, a segregated army camp in Louisiana, Charles Fuller's imposing drama which won the Pulitzer Prize in 1982, tracks the investigation of this murder. A Soldier's Play is more than a detective story: it is a tough, incisive exploration of racial tensions and ambiguities among blacks and between blacks and whites that gives no easy answers and assigns no sim...

Titus Andronicus has enough murder and atrocities to fill a big boat all by itself so it only makes sense to add a bunch of killer fish. Much like Titus Andronicus Jr. from last year’s Fringe, this show takes the bloody and overly-dramatic and turns it in to a bit of a screwball farce. Complete with plastic palm trees, fruity drinks and a wonderful Florida retiree narrator (Jo MacLachlan), the creator/director Fiona Austin turns Sharkspeare’s classic into great fringe fun.
Titus Andronicus (a te...
