La Bete

I am still crying from this show! June Carryl has given one of the single most powerful performances and pieces of writing that I have seen at this year's Hollywood fringe Festival, hands down. How Writing is layered and sophisticated but bursting with honesty. June is a wordsmith interlacing bold cultural ideas and profound inner conflicts with her fine needle of immaculate dialogue and colorful spectrum of poetic observations. As a performer, not only does she demonstrate full mastery of her ch... full review

The Creeps

Catherine Waller is a creature apart. In her new solo show THE CREEPS she manages to summon for highly distinct personalities that will seer themselves into your mind for days and days to come. I don't want to give anything away but the title is a perfect description of the vibe from beginning to end. Her body morphs almost supernaturally into distinct personalities so pathetic, disturbed and disturbingly relatable. At times it feels like a horror movie – by horror I mean the horrors of the soul... full review

"The Mermaid Who Learned How to Fly"

To see this show is to fall in love with Kyla Garcia. She sparkles, she shines, she gives an explosion of emotional color and vocal music that weaves the air like magic and pulls people to their feet, professing their love and devotion. It's a show that makes the audience feel cared for, infatuated and even a little aroused. She plays dozens of roles, each better than the next. You are hard pressed to find a better solo performance at this years Hollywood Fringe. Kyla is real star, with a disco-b... full review

Friends Like These

I love Greg Crafts, The author of FRIENDS LIKE THESE. The man's heart is even bigger than he is (and the dude is pretty damn big.) I only mention all of this because his heart beams through this play he is written. Some plays seem necessary to tell because they echo from the Writers Place, a place so personal and vulnerable, yet capturing a story that the world should hear. This is one of those plays. Just by watching FLT, it seems that Greg remembers exactly what it was like to be an outcast in ... full review

Women

michael shaw fisher · June 11, 2014 uncertified reviewer
What a hit!! Oy my sides!! WOMEN is a true delight and I highly doubt anyone will leave the theater without being blown away by the comedic forces of the actors and the reckless wit of the writer. Some jokes are dangerously funny and if you have any reference to LITTLE women or HBO's GIRLS then you will be rolling down the aisles of the Asylum, gasping like you're dying of consumption. I would even venture to say that WOMEN is even more successful, as a piece of live comedic theater, than the TV... full review

The Wake

There is a reason why people were getting excited when they heard that Ben Moroski was bringing a new solo show to this years Hollywood Fringe. THIS VICIOUS MINUTE was the must-see solo show of 2012. Anyone who is wondering if he is going to be able to top himself this year with THE WAKE will be put to shame. From the moment Ben enters… Or "Peter"… We get a jumper cable to the nipples, A stage presence with unfathomable energy reserves at his disposal – and that's just in the performance. The wri... full review

Fringe Awards Ceremony 2013

Ok... So I've been reading some of these reviews of the fringe award party and I am pretty sad. I usually wouldnt dignify this stuff with a response but I can't help myself. So they didn't have fans! I think the freakish heat took everyone by surprise and once all those people got in the seats it got hotter. We didn't need fans in the same space last year so how could they know? Also, are you going to begrudge them for not giving a special shout out to you for doing an opera?! I'm s... full review

BOBBYWOOD: WHATEVER HAPPENED TO BOBBY THE BELLBOY?

This is my first Bill Ratner show and I am officially furious with myself for not having seen his last show Voices in my Head. The man is just so good at what he does. He is such an awesome, good hearted badass. I think Bobby would be proud of this show. What a tribute!!!!... full review
